Artur Simonyan

Artur Simonyan is a researcher at IOS Regensburg and a non-resident senior fellow at AGMI. He was formerly a senior research fellow with the KFG Berlin-Potsdam Research Group "The International Rule of Law – Rise or Decline?" He holds a PhD in international law from the University of Tartu School of Law, where he also taught courses on regional integration in Europe and Eurasia.

His research focuses on regionalism and international law, the history and theory of international law, and the transformation of legal orders in the post-Soviet Eurasian space. His scholarly work has been published or is forthcoming in leading journals such as the European Journal of International Law, Chinese Journal of International Law, The Hague Yearbook of International Law, and the Michigan State International Law Review, among others.

He is the author of the forthcoming monograph Development of Regional International Law in Russia and Eurasia(Routledge, 2026) and co-editor of the edited volume Territory and Territoriality in Eurasia: Law and Geopolitics, under contract with Edward Elgar.

Dr. Simonyan holds bachelor's degrees in law from the French University in Armenia and Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University. He earned a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies and completed graduate exchange studies at the Sciences Po Paris School of International Affairs.
