Erkjad Kajo

Erkjad Kajo is an A*Midex Postdoctoral Fellow in Global History at TELEMMe, Maison méditerranéenne des sciences humaines et sociales, Aix-Marseille University. His current project, Thinking Nationally, Acting Globally: Ottoman-Albanian Intelligentsia, Mobility, Ideas and the End of Empire, funded by the A*Midex Foundation, recovers the end of empire as a lived human experience, traced through the eyes of Ottoman-Albanian intellectuals as they moved between languages, cities, and political worlds.

He holds a PhD in Global History from University of Pavia and a First-Class Honours Research Master's degree in Modern and Contemporary History from Panteion University, and completed his undergraduate education at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the University of Turin. A polyglot fluent in seven languages, he works across the archival and intellectual settings of the Albanian- and Greek-speaking worlds and beyond.

His research interests includes Global Intellectual History and Ottoman and post-Ottoman Balkan transnational history. His work has appeared in La Rassegna Storica del Risorgimento, Brill's Studies in Global Social History, and Balkanistic Forum. He is currently co-editing the volume Alternatives to the Nation-State: Federalism, Autonomy, and Post-Imperial Imaginaries in the Mediterranean Long Nineteenth Century, to be submitted to Routledge's Ideas beyond Borders series.
