Until March 2022, he has been the Head of School of Politics and International Relations, RANEPA St. Petersburg. He resigned from his position at RANEPA in protest of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and RANEPA St. Petersburg’s pro-war statement. Currently, Dr. Roshchin is a research scholar at the University Center for Human Values, Princeton University. Dr. Roshchin’s research interests include the studies of concepts in political and international theory, neo-republicanism, and academic freedom. He researched the history of friendship, international society, and international community as key social concepts of international politics. Dr. Roshchin is the author of “Friendship among Nations: History of a Concept” (Manchester University Press, 2017). His work was published in the *European Journal of International Relations, Review of International Studies, International Politics* and Russian academic journals *Political Studies, Politicheskaya Nauka*, and others. He is the editor of “Contemporary Republican Theory of Freedom” (in Russian language) which includes contributions by Philip Pettit, Quentin Skinner, Iain Hampsher-Monk, Susan James, Peter Halden, and others. He is currently working on a monograph on academic unfreedom in the context of Russian higher education. This project draws from the neo-republican approaches to explain the practices of academic freedom and unfreedom in Russian universities.
