Jiseob Yoon (Ph.D. Princeton University) specializes in ancient political thought (Greek and Roman), and her research interests include the philosophy of law, early Chinese political thought, comparative political theory, and the function of emotions in political life.  

Her dissertation, “The Role of Law in Plato’s Cities,” argues for Plato’s recognition of law’s essential role in ruling ideal cities and sustaining corrupt cities in the RepublicStatesman, and Laws. One of the chapters of her dissertation, titled “Ruling with Knowledge vs. Ruling with Laws: The Role of Law in Plato’s Best City in the Statesman," is forthcoming in History of Political Thought

Prior to Princeton, Jiseob received her B.A. summa cum laude in Political Science and in Philosophy from Seoul National University, and an M.A. in Political Science from Seoul National University. In spring 2025, she will teach at Georgetown University.
