Dr. José Joel Peña Llanes

Dr. José Joel Peña Llanes is an assistant professor at the Center for International Relations of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He is also an assistant professor at Universidad Anáhuac, Mexico. His research focuses on the European Union’s integration process, Latin American regionalisms, Mexican foreign policy, as well as topics related to public administration, public international law, and human rights.

He holds a Doctorate in Public Administration from the National Institute of Public Administration (INAP) and a Doctorate in Law from the Institute of Legal Research of the UNAM. He holds a Master's Degree in International Relations Studies and a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at UNAM.

He is a candidate researcher recognized by the National Council of Humanities, Sciences, and Technologies (Conacyt), an associate of the Institute of Politics and Governance, A.C. (IPG), an associate of the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI), and a member of its Europe plus and Ukrainian-Russian Conflict Analysis and Reflection Units.

He is a member of the Mexican International Studies Association (AMEI), the International Studies Association (ISA), the International Law Association - Mexican Chapter (ILA-Mexico), the Reflection Group on Integration and Development in Latin America and Europe (GRIDALE) and is a guest contributor to various local and international media outlets. He has also participated as a speaker at both national and international conferences.

The book El interregionalismo: nueva estrategia de política exterior para México is his most recent publication, and he was co-coordinator of the book Evolución de la Justicia Global y el Derecho Internacional: una revisión desde los medios jurídicos de solución de diferencias.

He has published articles on international topics in indexed academic journals and chapters in books edited in Spanish and has served as a reviewer for books and journals both nationally and internationally.
