Kuangyu Zhao

Kuangyu Zhao is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington. He earned his BA from Remin University of China and an MA in Political Science from Duke University. His research interests lie in the history of political thought, contemporary democratic theory (especially the relationship between liberal democracy and nationalism), and comparative political theory. The common theme that motivates his research is the critical defense of liberal democratic values and institutions in the context of globalization and cross-cultural exchanges. His dissertation explores the relevant theoretical insights by comparing the political thought of Alexis de Tocqueville and Liang Qichao.
