His research focuses on normative aspects of organized violence, in particular on the international regulation of military force, on which he has published numerous articles and book chapters. He has been general editor of the *Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law* since 2021 and his monograph *The Laws of War in International Thought* was published by Oxford University Press in 2020. Before ITAM, he was professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City and at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. He has been visiting fellow or researcher at Yale University, the European University Institute, the Free University in Berlin, McGill University, and the University of Ulster.
