ZHANG Sheng is a PhD candidate in Sociology at the Johns Hopkins University, and holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University, where he joined the AGPT. His areas of research interests include but are not limited to Middle Eastern politics and history, China-Middle East relations and solidarity-building process, China-South Asia relations and historical interactions, Chinese diplomacy and politics from the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949 to the present, and the history and political thought of Chinese ethnic minorities. In particular, he specializes in the history of international socialist and Maoist movements of the twentieth century, and studies Marxist theory, post-colonial theory, and political thoughts of Socialism in China, South Asia, and Middle East. Beyond his academic career, he is also a political commentator and columnist, frequently contributing opinion pieces and giving television interviews for various mainstream media outlets in countries including China, Egypt, Russia, Jordan, and Nepal.
